The updates keep rolling in! In the latest versions of Stop Spammers and Premium, we focused primarily on code cleanup. Stop Spammers was first added to the WordPress repository way back in 2012. Given its legacy, there were several opportunities to improve upon the codebase in order to future proof our project for years to come.
Translation Ready and More Lightweight
One of the most notable additions is that the free and premium plugins are now translation ready. If you would like to add a translation, please let us know and we will gift lifetime premium for your contribution. Part of making our plugins translation ready meant moving the help text to a more sensible location. Features no longer have the tooltips with their corresponding help text. The main headings have a tooltip, which is linked to a corresponding section in our newly-minted catalog of documentation.
WooCommerce Safety Checks
With thousands of WordPress plugins available to install and activate, it’s no sure bet that Stop Spammers plays nicely with all of them. We have been given feedback from our fantastic community that there are sometimes compatibility issues with the two plugins. As our solution, we have added safety checks to disable Stop Spammers on WooCommerce pages so that our plugin does not block users completing the checkout process on your site.
Improved Whitelisting
When visitors looks suspicious, Stop Spammers knows to block them from completing forms. In the event of a false positive, a visitor may request access. The access request form captures their IP and also requires an email address. In previous versions, if you as the web admin approved a request, you would be approving the IP address that was captured at time of submission. But visitors could still be blocked in the event they access your site from a different IP address. Our update will now also add the email of the requester, guaranteeing they will not be blocked again if logged in under their email address.
